Play Dough Cake

So in order to celebrate my best gay friends birtday I made a cake for him with my real best friend, not saying that the gay best friend isnt real, hes actually right in fount of me being as obnxious as possible.

But all of this is not the point of my blog, I got to make FONDANT which I have always wanted to make, as I am a huge fan of watching professionals make amazing cakes and the fact that fondant can hold pretty much anything together. So I looked up a recipie for Marshmellow Fondant which by the way is a complete MESS to make, I wanted to take pictures of the process of making, however I had marshmellow on every utensil and surface within 5 feet of myself, so picking up the camera was not an option however I should have had the foresight to notice that taking an entire bag of marshmellows, melting them, and then adding 2 lbs of powdered sugar to the sloppy mess untill the consitency of play dough was going to make a hot sticky mess.

... you know that consitency you get when you burn the marshmellow at the end of the sick on the camp fire and pull off the crusty burnt outer shell... that is nothing compared to 16oz of completely melting marshmellow soup.

after kneeding for about an hour, I added food coloring to this mess turning my hands shirt and arms various colors that have yet to fully disappear.  Then its into the fridge for the night whereas in the morning, you have a boulder of solid unmalleable dough which you now need to re-beat into a dough like substance for about another hour. Now comes application... start with you cake, frosted or the fondant will not stick as pictured below... I used funfetti because that is what said gay friend requested, but added extra sprinkles cause it wasnt QUITE gay enought.

frosted but no fondant

Then I rolled out what was supposed to be red fondant but ended up being pink because I got sick of trying to make it the right color, and covered the entire cake...as my mother stated... good thing he's colorblind.   I then had green, purple, blue, and yellow fondant which I used to garnish this masterpiece in polka dots..

Isnt it Lovely! Now you understand why I dubbed it the Play Dough Cake... However I promise you it is all edible and VERY sweet, im talking, Sweeter than I can handle, but still pretty good, overall I was relatively happy with the outcome. I do plan to use a frosting underneath the fondant which is MUCH less sugary next time, because trust me the Fondant is plently sweet enough.

Heres the cake cut into.

Happy 20th Taekwondude!

Friends

It irritates me when people talk smack about friends, I mean honestly, the show yes, is a bit cheesy, it takes some cheap shots in terms of jokes, and it is a sitcom, making it exactly what I want to watch when I'm overwhelmed with everything going on in my life.  Sometimes a good helping of cheese with a side of unreality is exactly what the doctor ordered.

When someone gives me shit for kicking back with my 8 seasons of friends on a Saturday afternoon because the show is "unrealistic" or "their lives are soo easy" I just want to smack them, honestly does sitting down and watching Girls Next Door or some other ridiculous reality show on MTV relax you? Don't even get me started on Jerry Springer! What about watching people fight for the limelight in order to get ahead makes you happy? In my opinion its disgusting. For Example there Is NOTHING real or relaxing about this and not in an arousal sense, more of an infuriating sense.

There is something much realer about a group of friends struggling with relationships and jobs, than three skinny bleached implanted "beauties"

Life, Death, and All the Above.

Its a fact of life, people die, Ive also decided that its a fact of life that everyone gets cancer, its just a matter of when and how bad, and the shape your in when you get it. Your lucky if you get it in your 30's and its something simple like, a cancerous mole, a little lazer and a mild scalpel your done, no more.  If your unlucky you will have to deal with it while your young; this is my boyfriend; forcing you to grow up more every day, watching others fall down around you, and your not even 20.  A bit more unlucky is in the case when you haven't even made it a year, your not even old enough to know what death is and your battling it every day.  If your really unlucky you'll get it when your already sick, due to age, or another handicap. This is my grandmother, and this is her second round. You'd think chemo was bad the first time? Think about having to consider facing it again,
So here I am in a hospice, watching my grandmother slowly wilt away and wondering how much longer shes got left,  and I'm thinking, if were so fucking smart why are we killing ourselves,  all this technology that sets us apart from the 'wild' is whats causing all this, this laptop im sitting at- causes cancer from the electrical signal it sends out that accumulates in my body or something.  The plastic bottle I drank Gatorade from this afternoon- cancer.  The Teflon on the pan that the cookie I was eating- cancer.   My cell phone- Cancer, hell its probably in my clothes too.  What is so great about humans? We cause war, destroy nature, and kill ourselves.  Were roaches.
So in my afternoon of wisdom I left my own head for a while and took a few pictures.  Im hoping to be able to come up and visit my grandmother after exams.

Early Resolution

Ive decided to create this blog as a bit of an early new years resolution as a place for my twaddling thoughts and findings throughout the days. I also feel that it will be good for me to write something other than lab reports and chemical formula's.  So stay tuned, if you care to.

I chose out to sea without a paddle because it is just about how i feel at this point in my life, stuck in the daily stresses of my undergraduate BS in Veterinary Technology i feel thoroughly out of control of my future at the moment due to the fact that my possible career is in the hands of moody, grouchy and at time crotchety old professors.  I understand they worked hard for their education as well, and many in one field or another- are brilliant.  However in the art of composing and grading exams or more importantly speaking loudly and clearly the lot i have seem to come a bit short.  Anyway tally ho for now.  I am off to return to the muscle studies of a long gone cat named Oreo in the lab.
